"The Budget Act of 2001 appropriated $2.1 billion for the California Department of Education's (CDE), Child Care and Development Program in a mix of State (58 percent) and federal (42 percent) funds.  This represents a 10 percent increase from the prior year.  There are over 2,000 contracts dispersed through approximately 900 public and private agencies statewide to support and provide services to over 417,000 children..."
